Corixa species
Lesser Water boatman, front leg
This close-up picture of a the front leg of a Corixa species shows the long sieve hairs and their
implant. We see sieve hairs, unsharp in the foreground, after them on the center of the
shovel-shaped foot (tarsus) a double row of shorter bristles and at last on the background
the second fringe of sieve hairs. Please notice the little comb with six teeth on the joint. What
purpose has it? The foot has not much relative height and there are no spines on the top border,
which indicates that this is the leg of a female of the species.
