Micronecta species
STANDING TALL ON THE ROCKS, this creature looks almost a little frightening. In reality it
is a harmless little insect of less then 3 millimetres standing on sand. Notice the hairs on
the front legs with which Micronecta sieves its food from the water. There are two faint orange
spots on the face. This animal is one of a swarm I found in water of some millimetres depth on
the edge of a recreational swimming pond. Therefore the water quality must have been good. On
the other hand, this species is probably Micronecta scholtzi, which can endure a little
pollution.
