Peltodytes caesus

The larva of Peltodytes species differ from those of the close related Haliplus by the long filaments, that possibly act as gills. Notice the two tail filaments. Instead of the two open stigma at the tip of the abdomen of many waterbeetle larva with which they breathe at the surface, these are closed and run out in the filaments.
